Students attend Hope Squad retreat

Students at Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS) recently came together for a purposeful retreat focused on supporting peers and making a meaningful difference through Hope Squad, a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program. The mission of Hope Squad is to reduce youth suicide through education, training and peer intervention.

Mr. Chris Camp and the staff at Fun Fore All Family Park graciously hosted RGMS Hope Squad members for a retreat where students worked with a trained team of teachers and administrators. The retreat was filled with team building games, training sessions and activities focused on establishing a supportive network. We would like to thank Mr. Camp for donating his venue for the retreat, continually being an advocate for students and demonstrating community support!

Hope Squad members are nominated by their pers as being approachable, empathetic listeners who naturally support students in need of a friend. This vital program trains and mentors Hope Squad members to actively reach out to those who are struggling, acting as a bridge to connect them with the professional help they may require. Hope Squad student members do not provide counseling or therapy, but instead serve as a connection to the help that is needed.
