Digital Citizenship
7th Grade Description
The purpose of these lessons is to provide students with the tools and resources needed to navigate safely online and the importance of being a good citizen in both the digital and physical worlds. Over the course of the year, students will be provided with information that will help them become good online citizens including but not limited to creating a positive online footprint and how to respond and report to a trusted adult in difficult situations. Students will be provided with ways to protect themselves from a variety of online dangers including sexting, sextortion, online scams, online threats and rumors, online challenges, and cyber bullying/harassment. Students will also be provided with information regarding real-world consequences including current PA and federal laws associated with criminal behaviors that occur online. All classes are taught collaboratively with the librarian, tech facilitator, the school resource officer, and a classroom teacher.
8th Grade Description
The purpose of these lessons is to help students identify, protect, respond, and report any dangers they may encounter online. Students are taught a proactive approach to protecting themselves from a variety of online scams and crimes including sexting, sextortion, and deep fakes (AI-generated content). Students will also learn about current PA and federal laws that have been established to keep them safe and how these laws have set consequences for the online predator. Lastly, students will end the year with a discussion about monitoring their own screen times and setting healthy technological boundaries in their lives. All classes are taught collaboratively with the librarian, tech facilitator, the school resource officer, and a classroom teacher.
